Are tours suitable for children?
Our daily bike tours are open to all people who are 12 years and upwardsand are comfortable riding in bike lanes which sometimes run next to regular traffic.
Does the tour include bicycle use?
Yes, you get to ride one of our very lovely folding bikes. The 7 speedShimano hub gear makes negotiating small hills easier with the advantage ofbeing able to change gears when the bike is stationary. The ShimanoRevoshift setup are very user-friendly and require a simple twist forward orbackwards for gear change.
What if it rains?
The weather in Derry is generally much better than what many people believe. If, however, we do get caught in a shower we have rain ponchos available as part of the tour. A 5-day weather forecast can be found here:https://www.wunderground.com/weather/gb/derry
Do tours go on the road?
Our tours use the safest and most scenic routes possible. We primarily ride on dedicated cycle paths and green-ways or on quiet back streets. We appreciate that for some people the idea of cycling in traffic can be a daunting prospect so our guides make every effort to allay fears and build confidence. By the end of the ride we are certain that you will have a smile on your face and agree that a bicycle is the best way to get around Derry!
Where do tours start from?
The meeting point for all Bike Tours is the front of the Visitor Information Office (Visit Derry)Your guide will be waiting there with the white Elephantbicycle. Bike tours end back at the Visit Derry where details of free tea or coffee can be found . A map showing the meeting point can be found here
Do I have to wear a bike helmet?
It’s not the law in the UK to wear a helmet but we do have bike helmets available if you would like to wear one. Its entirely your own personal decision. Please let your guide know if you require a helmet.
What if I haven’t ridden a bike in years?
The expression ‘as easy as riding a bike’ was coined for a reason. You will be amazed how quickly cycling comes back to you and you’ll be at ease in no time. Our 1 hour tour is our easiest going route which we recommend if you are feeling a little rusty. There is plenty of time at the beginning of the tour to get used to the bicycle. Please note, unfortunately we do not have time on tours to teach people to ride a bike completely from scratch.
What do I need to bring?
You can wear your ‘every day’ clothes on our bikes and we provide a high viz. vest for your safety. Just dress for the weather! Sunglasses or a hat in summer, and gloves and a scarf in the winter and don’t forget your camera! 🙂 You are welcome to leave any unnecessary bags or items at our HQ whilst out on tour.
What if I am late?
We understand that occasionally a plan falls apart or public transport can let you down. If you are late you run the risk of the tour leaving without you. If this happens will reschedule you on a later tour, but exact times depend on our availability. Please call us on +44 (0) 79555 99224 if you need assistance finding the meeting point.
